Tomorrow’s just your future yesterday

International Student Coordinator Sebastian Lindholm looks to the past, the present, and the future.

Sebastian Lindholm

Exactly six years ago I sat foot in Columbia, South Carolina, in the United States of America. I arrived with many thoughts and concerns. Totally new to the continent and the country I did not know what to expect.

Were all the stereotypes and generalizations about Americans true?

How could people feel safe in a society where everybody owned a gun and drove a red pickup truck?

My mind was at a blank and all I knew was that I was an international student set to study for a semester at the biggest university in a state located at the very centre of the Bible Belt.

I ended up staying in South Carolina for two years before I moved south to Jacksonville, Florida, and stayed there for another two years and six months.

After over four years in the US and trips and visits to 15 different states, a bachelor degree in communications, and six months at an internship I really enjoyed, one thing was for certain; I had learn to love the country that had been my home for the past years and all those concerns and fears had blown away a long time ago.

Many of the stereotypes and generalizations ended up being false or rarely occurred, and the ones that appeared to be based on the truth were the positive ones.

So for all international students set to study here at Stockholm University this upcoming semester, my advise to you all is to have an open mind about the new settings and the people you are about to meet.

I know you will have a great time and enjoy the city, and our beautiful country to the fullest.

If you are worried about the future or a day yet to come, always remember; tomorrow’s just your future yesterday.

My name is Sebastian Lindholm and I will be working as an International Student Coordinator this upcoming semester.
