“QUIRKY AND OFFBEAT”
Hello! My name is Shandelle but you can call me Elle. I am an exchange student from Italy, for the Spring Semester 2017. I study Business Administration and I do not know why. Seriously! My interests are more about Arts like for example drawing, taking pictures and editing and my hobbies are cooking and reading books, so for any suggestions about what books to read I have a library of ideas for you!
I am going to talk about QUIRKY and OFFBEAT things to do in Stockholm that I think are really cool especially if you want to experience unusual and fun activities like me during your stay here in Stockholm.
The first activity that I want to talk about is the Rooftop Hiking. It is an activity where you can get to know Stockholm and different historic buildings, but instead of taking a regular walking tour through Stockholm, they do it on the roof top. It usually lasts about an hour and 15 minutes long, from the beginning to the end of the tour. You can fall safe! Make sure you carefully check if the organizers safety systems are approved according to the EU-standard. When it is done you will have unique and great photos that you can show back home and your friends will be impressed that you hiked on the roof tops of one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe.
Is your dream to see the city from the birds perspective? If you want to get a bird’s eye view of Stockholm you can try Hot Air Ballooning! It is the longest flight over Stockholm, “no glass, no windshield”. It goes slow and you can see everything. It is cheap if you are a big group of 12 people it will be cheaper; I assure you that this is better than buying the “famous” Stockholm backpack. It is safe to fly, hot air balloon is the safest aircraft available today and who flies are automatically insured by Skandia's special flight insurance. I recommend this site: http://www.ballong.se/index.php?language=en
Know before you go: Booking should be done 1-4 weeks before the flight. Prices: 1500 SEK per person.
Let’s go back to the ground. If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes or mysteries this is the perfect activity for you, the Stockholm Ghost Walk. This is an interesting way to see Stockholm in a different perspective. The tour guide will tell stories about legends, murder, diseases and of course ghosts hidden in the city. You will experience a mix of suspense and history and explore the dark streets and alleyways that make up the oldest part of Stockholm. It is usually a walking tour of 40-50 people and anyone can join, just keep in mind that it is a 90 minute walk.
Know before you go: this tour operates in all weather conditions so chose the date wisely; prices: SEK 200/ person.
The last unusual things do in Stockholm are FREE. These are the Color by Numbers and Trädgården (Under the Bridge Club). Colour by Number has a very simple and fun concept, everyone can change the color of the window of the tower of Telefonplan; you can either change it by calling which is free of charge or with an app. Trädgården (Under the Bridge Club) is an open space club in Stockholm with free entrance on a specific time.
Have fun exploring Stockholm!
